I think it would be less bizarre if our lecturer hadn't been a South African man with self-consciously anarchic vibes who was clearly coming onto the course with the aim of 'shaking up' a group of Malaysian girls he perceived as being demure and sheltered. He also managed to avoid mentioning Vita Sackville-West, soomehow.
